Uses |
Urostomy pouches are special bags that are used to collect urine after some types of bladder surgery. Instead of going to your bladder, urine will go outside of your abdomen into the urostomy pouch. The surgery to do this is called a urostomy. Part of the intestine is used to create a channel for the urine to drain. The main functions of urostomy bags are as follows:
Collecting urine
This is its most basic function. The urostomy bag can effectively collect the urine discharged by the patient, prevent urine from contaminating clothing and the surrounding environment, and keep the patient's body clean and comfortable.
Protect the skin
By fitting tightly to the skin around the stoma, the urostomy bag can prevent urine from directly contacting the skin and reduce urine irritation and damage to the skin. At the same time, some high-quality ostomy bags will also be equipped with auxiliary products such as skin protectants or anti-leakage creams to further protect the skin around the stoma.
Improve the quality of life
The use of urostomy bags allows patients to carry out daily activities more freely, such as work, study, socializing, etc. Patients can choose different types and specifications of ostomy bags according to their needs to adapt to different occasions and lifestyles.

IFU |
To use a urostomy bag, you'll need to first prepare the stoma area, then apply the new pouch, ensuring a secure seal. Empty the bag when it's about half full and clean the stoma area regularly with water.
Detailed Steps:
1. Preparation:
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
Gather your supplies: new urostomy pouch, measuring guide, scissors (if needed), warm water, wipes or a soft cloth, and a disposal bag.
If using a two-piece system, separate the pouch and wafer.
Empty the old pouch.
2. Applying the New Pouch:
One-piece system: Center the opening of the pouch over the stoma and gently press the adhesive to your skin, starting from the center and smoothing outwards.
Two-piece system: Apply the wafer to the skin around the stoma, ensuring a good seal. Then, snap the pouch onto the wafer, making sure it's securely attached.
Warm the pouch against your body for a few seconds to activate the adhesive.
Apply gentle pressure to the pouch for 30-60 seconds to ensure a good seal.
3. Emptying the Pouch:
Hold the outlet of the pouch over the toilet and open the tap or bung.
Drain the urine.
Wipe the outlet and close it securely.
4. Stoma Care:
Clean the skin around the stoma with warm water and a soft cloth or wipe.
Dry the skin thoroughly before applying a new pouch.
Consider using a skin barrier or paste to protect the skin from urine irritation.
Change the pouch regularly, as advised by your healthcare team.
If you experience any skin irritation or leakage, consult with your healthcare provider.
