What are the disadvantages of gauze?
2025-04-29
While gauze is widely used, it has limitations:
- Adhesion Issues: Traditional gauze may stick to wounds, causing pain during removal. Non adherent gauze (coated with petroleum or silicone) solves this but is less absorbent.
- Frequent Replacement: Gauze requires regular changes to prevent bacterial growth, increasing care complexity.
- Poor Fit for Certain Wounds: Gauze wrapping struggles to conform to irregular body parts, risking loosening.
- Risk of Over-Packing: Incorrect use of packing gauze for wounds can impair blood flow or delay healing.
